Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov arrived in Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials, FARS news agency reported on Monday.
Bogdanov arrived in Tehran at the invitation of Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir- Abdullahian.
According to the report, he will discuss inter-regional development, and in particular the Syrian issue with Iranian officials.
Bogdanov will also meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
Hossein Amir-Abdullahian visited Moscow and held talks with Russian President in August. Iran and Russia share views on the current situation in Syria. Thus, the two countries have repeatedly stressed the need to resolve the crisis in the Arab countries through diplomatic channels.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 20,000. More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
