Iran calls for expansion of ties with Russia

Moscow, April 12, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry ˈs Director General for Commonwealth States and Caucuses Affairs Mohammad Reza Morshedzadeh in a meeting with head of a Central Asian department in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Sternik called for more efforts to counter narcotics, extremism and terrorism efforts.

On necessity of fostering peace, security and tranquility in the region, Morshedzadeh urged fostering friendly and good neighborly cooperation with the Caucuses and Central Asian countries.

On Iran-Russia historic, cultural, civilizational and religious commonalties of Iran and regional countries, he noted that the two countries could play a pivotal role in fostering cooperation within framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The Russian official, for his part, said Iran enjoys special status in establishment of peace and tranquility in the region.
