Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser on international affairs to the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamanei, warned Saturday that any attack on Syria will be taken as an attack on Iran or its allies, according to the Reuters news agency.

Tehran has already made strongly-worded warnings against an overthrow of al-Assad, who’s engaged in a large-scale armed struggle against the opposition forces that are doing their utmost to come to power.

The conflict in Syria has been raging since March 2011.

According to the United Nations, over 60,000 have already fallen victim to the fighting.

The government in Damascus claims that they have to deal with resistance by heavily-armed gunmen, relying on outside support.

Iran approves Syrian loan

Iran has allocated a $1 billion loan for Syria to develop its energy sphere.

An agreement to this effect was signed after Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi’s visit to Tehran.

Half of the sum will go to the construction of new wind power plants in Syria.

The parties also sealed seven energy deals, namely on Iran funding the construction of a power plant in Syria and supplying energy to the country.
